One of the attributes of a good business person is knowing the competition. Harness racing has enormous competition from other forms of gambling, primarily casinos. Although many racetracks are coupled with casinos, the racetracks are subsidized by those who prefer slot machines, black jack tables, crap tables, etc. In order to compete with these other forms of gambling, many within the Harness racing industry monitor the publicly traded casinos.
